What is a gas-insulated switchgear?

Gas-insulated switchgear(GIS) is metal-enclosed switchgear that consists of high voltage components such as circuit-breakers and disconnectors, which can be safely operated in limited spaces. It is used where the space is limited, like city buildings, on roofs, industrial plants, etc. This kind of switchgear is available from the 12KV to the 800KV system.
